Traditionally associated with the Shetland Isles, the stretcher is used to block Haps (the Shetland name for a wool made shawl).
In years past, a shortage of available timber meant that they were a simple frame made of whatever suitable timber washed up on the shores.
This frame is of durable Oak and the edge pins are set at 1″ intervals.
This frame adjusts in 2″ increments from a 7′ square right down to about 6″ square.
It can also be set up as an oblong, a trapezoid and a triangle of any size between the dimensions above.
Wedding shawls can be much larger so we also supply a set of 4 extension bars. The largest we have thus far made created a 12′ square frame. That one, plus a 7′ and a 5′ one are now in San Francisco. Another 10′ one is in Australia and the rest are scattered throughout the UK.
